Walkpner is the world’s first smart walking stick device with fall detection, location tracking and automatic solar charging functions. Designed with seniors with dementia in mind, Walkpner is compatible with over 90% of walking sticks on the market.
In the event of a fall, the device will alert passers-by and notify carers at the same time, immediately raising medical attention and reducing the risk of failed resuscitation, injury and hospitalization. Equipped with location tracking function, the carers can check the location of the user via Walkpner at anywhere anytime.
Walkpner is the World’s first smart stick device designed for the elderly. Walkpner has a unique and innovative automatic solar charging function with the add-on design. With the solar assist charger, battery can be charged easier than ever before, and the remaining electricity will be stored in the device, it is suitable for the elderly who are forgetful. With the add-on design, more than 95% of traditional walking sticks or hiking sticks can be upgraded to “Smart stick”. The fall alarm and GPS notification functions will be triggered if a stick falls to the ground, enabling attention and treatment to be given promptly. At the same time, an SMS and call will be automatically sent and made to caregivers who are pre-defined in the app. Moreover, caregivers can monitor the location via desktop or mobile. This function can save a life of an elderly user.
Good Seed is a social innovation training and funding programme jointly developed and organized by Institute for Entrepreneurship (IfE) and Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation (J.C.DISI) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
